About the Museum of Borrego
The Museum of Borrego (The MoB) preserves, reveals and promotes the history of the San Diego desert resort community of Borrego Springs.
Located 2 hours from San Diego and Palm Springs, three hours from Los Angeles, the present community was established in 1949.
The MoB is currently under construction in the historic Borrego Sun Building designed in 1960 by Roy Drew, FAIA who along with San Diego modernist Robert Mosher established Moser Drew Architects of San Diego.
The Sun building was commissioned by James Copley owner of the San Diego Union, Tribune and Borrego Sun in addition to 19 newspapers across the country. Designed originally to house the offices of the Sun newspaper and bank, the building commands a central place in the heart of the community, Christmas Circle.
With the Borrego Sun newspaper having new offices, the Sun building was sold in 2025. The new owner seeks to engage the community in art, history and sharing the Stories of Borrego.
